Day 15 the Maseta.
Today was a 13 mile day starting in Burgos and ending in Hornillos Del Camino. It took a while to get out of the big city of Burgos and the streets were completely empty! It’s Sunday and there was a festival last night. It was a bit chilly this morning w overcast sky and temps in the 60’s. I met Andrew as I was leaving this morning and we walked and talked together for the first 6 miles. He’s a Psychiatrist in London but he wonders if he is called to ministry. He has studied quite a bit of theology so our conversation was wide ranging in God topics. It was a pleasant few hours that made the miles easy.
After stopping at a cafe, for tea con leche I walked the rest of the afternoon alone. It was pleasant but the sun was beating down for the last few hours.
I stopped at a few churches along the way but many I passed were not open today. At least not at the time I passed them. I think many Catholics have services on Saturdays.
This is the day we began walking on the Meseta. It’s known for being long, flat, hot, and mind-numbing. I found it to be absolutely gorgeous with the flowing fields of grain and so many wildflowers! Of course the weather was mild today so that certainly helped. The poppies were fantastic.
Tonight I’m staying in a small town of less than 100 people. I reconnected with Hannah from Day 1 who is staying in the same albergue as me. Our place is quaint with a nice patio area and for 3 euros I am getting my clothes washed by someone in a real washing machine! After days of hand washing this might actually get them clean.
Tonight is a pilgrims dinner at the albergue so that will be fun. It means meeting more people and sharing good conversation. I can smell the paella cooking now!
Buen Camino.
You are truly an inspiration to me!!!! I look forward to your post everyday. Keep walking and enjoying everything there is to take in on this journey.
I wanna do this!
It is so interesting how you meet people, lose them for awhile then find them again. That really must be so nice, like a lovely surprise to not have to start completely over every day. Prayers to love the Meseta, despite the fact it is not as picturesque as other sections of the Walk.
See previous post on this day.
I hope the weather stays mild. I look forward to your photos and entries each day. It has been very generous of you to share your journey. I am praying for you every step of the way.
What a blessing you are to share your journey with us. Your commitment is inspiring. Prayers for continued safety and strength for you. Love and hugs.
What joy to have inspiring, stimulating, and meaningful conversation.❤️
And that you saw beauty where others experience mind numbingness.
Sounds like you had a great evening planned. Blessings & peace, Ann
