Another long day but 3 miles shorter than yesterday. Only 13 m today. I had a good dinner of salad and salmon last night which is very exciting! So far it’s been hard to find a good salad. Salad usually means a few leafs of lettuce w some meat and cheese or similar on it. So that greenery tasted delicious last night.
I slept well in my own quiet room, in a real bed with sheets and a pillow! I’m so grateful. I felt much more ready for the day today, though my body is pretty sore. My Achilles tendons are hurting from all the up hill I think. But I had more energy than yesterday.
The walk was again beautiful, near a river most of the day. Up and down and some flat. I walked by huge fields of wheat, through thick forest, and through small towns. It was perfect weather again at 78 and blue skies.
I skipped breakfast today because most of the breakfasts so far have been a lot of bread. And that doesn’t work for a long hike. I need protein early in the day or fruit. So I stopped about 3 miles in and ate nuts, cheese and a little dark chocolate I had picked up last night. About 30 min later I walked by a cafe and considered not stopping because I didn’t need anything. But I decided a shady break would be good. And I’m so glad I did because I ran into some pilgrim friends. I had been alone so far so it was nice to see them again. I also met a few other pilgrims from the US and Ireland. One of the young men from Ireland serenaded us with a guitar for a bit. He sang brow eyed girl- a fav! It was a good time with music, laughter, and good conversation. I’m so glad I didn’t skip that stop!
I visited an old church and said some prayers, talked to God and the animals today, and sang to myself. Surprisingly I haven’t used my earphones much to listen to music or audio books. Just haven’t felt the need. I’ve been absorbed in the surroundings instead.
Tonight I’m in Pamplona. I stayed here in the way to the starting point but didn’t see much of the town. Today we are all staying in old town Pamplona and it is really cool. Ancient walls with a gate and mote surround the old town.
It’s been a good day and I’m showered and ready to explore a little and eat a lot! Buen Camino!
I’m so enjoying following along and I feel like I’m having this experience with you! Thank you for sharing it. And prayers for all the holy moments ♥️
Tina, your quiet determination to do what you have to do to maintain your energy is so
good for longtime health support. I’m surprised the food isn’t always reliable, but glad you have been finding your way onward. Meeting up with other Pilgrims makes the trip memorable and easier to bear the uncertainties. Our prayer for you today: “Lord, please continue to sustain Tina with the determination she needs to continue her pilgrimage.”
So amazing friend reading about your days. The people you are meeting, along with the beautiful terrain sounds so peaceful and lovely! Glad you got your own room one night and that maybe it’s an option every few days. Thrilled to hear you are still keeping in contact with the animals along your journey. Stay safe!
Blessings ❤️
Pamplona is supposed to be beautiful and it sounds like it was. Being able to be alone and quiet must create lots of opportunity to listen to God, as we talked about in our Discipleship class. We can do that anytime but sadly we don’t enough. At least I don’t. Great reminder! I know what you are doing is hard — very hard — but lots of folks are cheering you on. But most importantly God is. It is a very real demonstration of your faith to God and to others. Prayers for strength, listening ears, comfort, inspiration, healing and feeling God with you every step.
