Today was another glorious day. Still in the Pyrenees mountains, and another 75 degree bluebird day. It was much longer, but somehow didn’t seem so bad. The beauty makes a difference. It started off up hill again but this time not quite as steep. The first 6 miles were up hill and part of the time it was straight into the wind. The thing about hiking in the mountains is around every corner you hope it will level
Off. It didn’t. But at about mile 5 when the wind was wearing me out, there was a snack van parked by the trail. He had fruit and snacks and cheese and boy was I happy. I took off my pack a got some protein in my body. The Camino provides.
After that another mile up then about 5 miles flat ish. Then another couple miles down.
The terrain was similar to yesterday but full of sheep, cows and horses. They were all so beautiful in the midst of all the green. There was also a few miles of wooded area that was peaceful.
I walked mostly by myself today which was good. I needed a little quiet time. I spent a lot of time praying, talking out loud to the animals and just observing. A glorious day!
I am staying with many others in a monetary from the 15th century! It’s fantastic. They have renovated the inside where the pilgrims sleep and it has nice showers and bathrooms and plenty of plugs. All very important. And they washed my clothes for me!! This is all volunteer-run and all the volunteers have walked the Camino before, so they get it.
Simple pleasures.
Tonight dinner and my first pilgrims mass! It will be in Spanish but I bet I can follow along easily. Somehow the language of God is universal.
Buen Camino.
Is the monastery in Roncevalles?
You are doing it!
Buen Camino
I’m loving your posts and I can relate to the hiking part to my Philmont trek as an adult.
Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers (and Gene too).
Hike On,

Thank you for including us in your journey!
I am so loving this! Thanks!
How wonderful that you have both quiet time and time with others. The scenery is so beautiful as I would have expected. I hope your feet are holding up. Prayers for your walk continuing. God be with you.
Sounds like such a special journey. So happy you can make this trek.
